School News丨龙腾虎跃又一年：在FLIS，我们这样迎接春节！

春节是中华民族最重要、最热闹的传统节日，它寄托了华夏人民对新年最真挚美好的向往。为了让福州西湖国际学校的学子更好地感受中华文化，近日，FLIS校园里也开展了一系列“虎年迎新春”活动！
Chinese New Year is the most important and lively traditional festival of the Chinese people, and it holds the most sincere and beautiful aspirations of the Chinese people for the coming Year. In order to give the students of Fuzhou Lakeside International School a better experience of Chinese culture, a series of activities were recently held on the FLIS campus to welcome the Year of the Tiger!

一、二年级的学子在艺术部Hank老师的指导下完成了一幅令人赞叹不已的“百虎图”！通过手绘各式各样的虎头，在画、涂、剪、贴的过程中，孩子们不仅感受到了文化氛围与节日乐趣，也为大家送上了可爱满满的新春祝福。
Under the guidance of Mr. Hank from the Art Department, the first and second graders completed an amazing "Hundred Tiger Pictures"! By drawing, painting, cutting and pasting various tiger heads, the children not only felt the cultural atmosphere and festive fun, but also sent their lovely New Year wishes to everyone.

此外，小学部的日常教学也在继续。1月19日，三年级学子前往福州科技博物馆参观，以便增进对目前正在学习的IPC主题“明亮的闪光”的理解，同时，这也能拓宽学子们对过往已学习过的主题“探险家与冒险者”的认知。博物馆之行同样令学子有机会多多动手实操，学习有关“电”的知识，对一些课堂上的问题作出解答。这天一年级小朋友来到福州市规划馆进行IPC“宝藏岛”主题的户外学习。他们要学习“陆地版块”，包括大陆与岛屿在内的相关知识，还有方向与地图制作，以及指南针的使用法。一年级学子观摩了许多地图及模型，包括野外地图、城市地图及水路图。由此，孩子们感受到了河流是如何冲击陆地，影响农业，并塑造了人们的生活，他们更通过古今对比图了解了福州的历史。
In addition, the daily teaching of Primary continues. On Wednesday January 19th, FLIS third grade class took a trip to a science museum in Fuzhou. This trip allowed our students to get a greater understanding of the topics that we were covering in our current “Bright Sparks!” IPC theme, and also linked to some of the ideas we studied in “Adventurers and Explorers” previously. As well as deepening our knowledge on these topics, this museum also allowed us to take a more hands-on approach to learning about electricity, found answers to some of the questions we have generated on the topic, and practiced some experiments for ourselves. On the same day, our first grade students came to the Fuzhou Urban Planning Exhibition Hall for IPC unit learning of “Treasure Islands”. At this Hall, we were able to bring to life many maps and models for students to explore, including large-scale maps illustrating wilderness, rural, and urban locales. Students saw how waterways such as rivers and coastlines impact countries in an agricultural and prosperous way of life. There were electronic media that explained the history of the local area and how it came to be the way it is in the present-day.

中学部学子则通过“虎年新春小庙会”提前庆祝佳节。中学生泼墨挥毫，在纸上写下带有新年祝福的汉字，并以巧手剪窗花、捏泥人、编中国结。庙会现场，中文部老师们还准备了套圈游戏，让大家把“福气”套回家，生龙活虎过大年！
The secondary school students celebrated the festivities in advance through the "New Year of the Tiger Small Temple Fair". The students wrote lucky Chinese characters on paper, cut window flowers, made clay figures and knotted Chinese knots. At the temple fair, the Chinese teachers also prepared a game of lasso, so that everyone could take home the "luck"!

为进一步提升海内外中小学生对“福文化”的认知与理解，东南网海外部王艳玲主任特邀福建省政协常委释本性禅师创作“福”字，并送“福”进校园，培养学生们传承、发扬“福文化”。阐述了新时代“五福”，即“福山、福水、福天、福地、福气”。
In order to further enhance the awareness and understanding of the "Blessing Culture" among primary and secondary school students at home and abroad, Mr. Wang Yanling, Director of Overseas Department of Southeast.com, invited Mr. Shi Benxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), to create "Blessing" characters and send "Blessing" to schools to train students to pass on and carry forward the "Blessing Culture".

迎新春活动怎么少得了萌娃们蹦蹦跳跳的身影呢？1月21日，幼儿部小朋友们穿上应景的喜庆新衣，携家中最能代表春节的一道菜，欢欢喜喜与同学们在教室聚餐，将年味搬进校园。借此，他们不仅能通过真实场景了解新春习俗的英文表达方式，也让外教感受到浓浓的年味儿！
On January 21, the children in the ECE Department dressed up in festive new clothes and brought a dish that best represents Chinese New Year to the classroom with their classmates. Through this, they not only learned the English expressions of Chinese New Year customs through real scenes, but also made the foreign teachers feel the strong flavor of Chinese New Year!

本周四，又一年新春抽奖活动开锣！我们为全校师生及教职员工准备了幸运红包抽奖活动，希望大家都抽到了自己心仪的礼物。在此，FLIS预祝大家虎年大吉，平安健康！
This Thursday, the long-awaited lucky draw finally started! All teachers, students, and staff came to the red envelope wall to try their luck. We hope everyone all drew their favorite gifts. FLIS would like to wish you all a very happy, safe and healthy Year of the Tiger!
