Focusing

今年世界精神卫生日的主题为「使人人享有心理健康和福祉成为全球优先」("Make Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority.")。
World Mental Health Day (10 October) is an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health and mental health issues, mobilize support for them, and expand social inclusion. The theme of this year's World Mental Health Day is "Make Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority".

Perhaps many sharp-eyed students have already noticed: at the end of last month, a Hope Mailbox quietly appeared on the first floor of Fuzhou Lakeside International School, next to an orange notice board stating: If you want to talk to someone, or have any troubles, you are welcome to write to me, and I will contact you as soon as possible. What is this all about? Have you tried to send a letter? In this issue, we would like to introduce you to this department: the FLIS Guidance and Counseling Department, headed by Ms. Virginia Wu.

In the modern fast-paced life, more or less everyone has to face stress and feel uneasy and fearful as a result. It is extremely common for students to experience psychological distress or mental health disorders due to the stresses associated with academics, physical and psychological changes during adolescence. For international students, there are additional sources of stress such as dealing with disorientation due to culture shock, the challenges of adjusting to a new environment and language barriers, and more. Mental health difficulties can significantly reduce a student’s capacity to meet their course requirements; it can also highly impact their personal lives throughout all aspects. Good mental health is essential for all students to achieve their academic success.

The FLIS Guidance and Counseling Department has created a warm, secure environment for visitors where everything you confide in will be kept confidential. Through individual counseling, sandplay therapy, mental health campaigns and workshops, we hope to build a mutually accepting and trusting relationship with our visitors, thereby improving the mental health of our students and promoting healthy living.

Vulnerability, hypersensitivity, anxiety and other suspected "negative" traits/emotions should neither be a reason for others to ridicule you nor a weapon against yourself - they are just emotions everyone may experience in a crisis, and we can intervene, provide help and get relief through some professional means. Many people have spent countless long nights carrying this "shame", and maybe you've thought about it - now it's time to take that heavy psychological burden off.
